Pailton Engineering has successfully been recommended to transition to the new IATF 16949 quality management standard. Moving away from the old ISO/TS 16949 standard, the company has met the more stringent requirements ahead of the September 2018 deadline after an intense five-day audit.

IATF 16949:2016 was published by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and supersedes the current ISO/TS 16949. It defines the requirements of a quality management system for organisations in the automotive industry, shaped by tighter requirements. Its aim is to harmonise the different assessment and certification systems in the global automotive supply chain.

The transition that is expected to affect more than 68,000 suppliers in the automotive industry, with each one expected to reassess systems and procedures in line with new requirements. In fact, the International Automotive Oversight Bureau (IAOB) reported that current IATF 16949 results indicate auditors are finding more issues in IATF 16949 audits that in ISO/TS 16949 audits on previous years, demonstrating the respect Pailton’s recommendation is worthy of.

“We conducted a full systems gap analysis between the old and new standard,” explained Cy Wilkinson, managing director of Pailton Engineering. “In turn, we made risk a company-wide concern, and ingrained risk-based thinking throughout our processes. Most importantly, this has been led by top management, managing risks throughout the entire organisation.

“This compliance maintains the trust we’ve earned from our customers over the years and opens up access to new business opportunities. The five day assessment may have been long, but we are thrilled to be recommended for transition. We can now guarantee our customers, automotive or not, that their parts will be treated in accordance with this new standard.”

Pailton Engineering supplies quality steering system parts to the military, commercial and bus and coach vehicle industries, complying with IATF 16949 quality management standards. These parts are tested against the conditions the vehicles will face throughout their lifespan, to ensure high performance and longevity.
