Abby began her career at the steering parts manufacturer in 1993, working two days on reception and three days carrying out administrative work in the purchasing department. Although she learned a lot from these varied roles, it was when making the transition from purchasing to sales that she found her niche. Today, she is running the company’s internal sales office by looking after the complete customer base for all of their orders, enquiries and exporting needs.
During her three decades at the company, Abby has not only witnessed its tremendous growth, but played an active part in it herself. Pailton Engineering has expanded into new markets, becoming a trusted supplier for blue chip original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the commercial vehicle, bus and coach and military sectors. Providing excellent customer service and support has been key to securing and retaining customers across Europe and the United States, and Abby’s commitment to this goal has been an important piece of the jigsaw.
Reflecting on her time at the company, Abby recalled that, ‘‘When I first started here there were only 40-50 employees. It was a real team effort to achieve our goals, with everyone pitching in no matter what needed to be done. In this environment, I had lots of opportunities to work with different departments which enhanced my experience.’’
When asked what she believed was the biggest change at the company during her time, Abby was unequivocal in her answer: ‘‘It is absolutely the growth of Pailton, which has been marvellous to have been a part of even if challenging at times.’’ As a result of this expansion, Abby is regularly learning about new products and processes, which has kept her job interesting and helped ensure no two days are the same.
‘‘To achieve 30 years of service with one employer is an increasingly remarkable achievement, but then Abby is quite a remarkable employee,’’ said David Jennings, CEO of Pailton Engineering. ‘‘Abby is passionate about all that she does and cares deeply about the company and its customers; she is respected and admired by those who know her for her willingness to repeatedly go the extra mile. People who care passionately about what they do make all the difference to any organisation, and after 30 years of service, Abby continues to make a big difference to Pailton Engineering.’’
